1. History of the Dryanovo Railway Car Factory
The plant’s origins date back to 1920, starting as a small blacksmith and wheelwright workshop founded by Kolyu Kolarya, Nikola Penchev, and Nikola Ivanov.
In 1924, the Bulgarian State Railways contracted the workshop for freight car repairs. Railcar maintenance and production quickly became its main focus under the name „Zdravina“.
2. Community Impact and Technical Facilities
Over the decades, the factory grew into Dryanovo’s largest employer, providing jobs for thousands of people across the region.
The facility maintained extensive social and cultural infrastructure, including worker housing, a library, music ensembles, and its own amateur radio club, LZ2KAV.
With its advanced metalworking machinery and workshops, the plant also assisted local amateurs by fabricating metal chassis and structural components for radio transmitters across the district.
