The Oath of the Bulgarian Radio Amateur
Code of Conduct, Ethics, and Core Values
Amateur radio is far more than a technical hobby; it is a community dedicated to service, camaraderie, and high ethical standards. The solemn Oath of the Bulgarian Radio Amateur encapsulates the moral, civic, and operational duties that every operator upholds.
„I, the Bulgarian Radio Amateur, solemnly swear:“
- To be a patriot: To offer my station, technical knowledge, and operating skills in service of my country and community when required. To remain an upright citizen, respect national laws, and assist public authorities during emergencies.
- To uphold equality and non-discrimination: To reject discrimination of any kind — whether based on religion, gender, race, skill level, operating mode preference, or any other factor. To respect diverse beliefs, foster harmony, and maintain composure in all circumstances.
- To be honest and moral: To abide by universal ethical standards. To take pride in being a radio amateur, to assist others, and to protect them during disasters, placing community welfare above personal interest.
- To be courteous: To strictly avoid political, religious, or personal disputes during radio contacts, meetings, or online forums. Never to operate on-air in a manner that disrupts the enjoyment of fellow hams or neighbors.
- To preserve amateur radio traditions: To continuously pursue self-improvement, master new technologies, refine operating practices, and adhere strictly to technical standards and radio regulations.
- To promote community leadership: To support my radio club and national organizations. To encourage beginners, exercise patience, and offer friendly guidance without being intrusive.
- To maintain a balanced life: To preserve a healthy balance between amateur radio as a passion and my fundamental duties toward my family, employment, education, and society.
I so swear!
