Interview: Some guidelines for success
Do not be afraid to demonstrate your strengths. Modesty is not an advantage.
When asked about your weaknesses, try to describe them as advantages.
Do not “guess” what the interviewer thinks. Some of the most embarrassing situations in which an applicant can face are related to improper interpretation of him possible acquaintances, origin, beliefs interviewers. They can be your suppositions offensive or inappropriate informal.
Never compare yourself to other applicants – at least you do not know them. In this sense underestimate their power or disparagement of them will be treated as a sign of poor upbringing.
Do not miss the opportunity to ask questions. This will demonstrate your interest in the position. Moreover, you can get answers to questions that will build a more accurate idea of the terms of conditions of a potential job offer. Below are some sample questions:
- What makes your company different from others?
- What values are encouraged in the organization?
- What are the long term plans of the company?
- What are the priorities for the department “ABC”?
- What are the relationships and intersections of the position you are applying to other positions in the organization?
- What is the philosophy of the company to employees?
- What would be my options for professional development within the company?
- When can I expect feedback on the outcome of the competition? Can I be sure I will be informed of the results, regardless of whether you will be approved or not?
When it comes to money should avoid raising the issue alone. Wait for the interviewer to ask about your expectations.
When you are asked about your expectations possible strategy is to divert the issue by saying that you do not have sufficient information about the nature of the position. The interviewer, however, may prompt you to ask questions that would help you navigate and then come back to the question.
Answers such as “Money is not decisive for me, therefore I would not like to comment on them and would prefer to hear your offer” or “I think the salary should be discussed only after I practice my abilities” are of dubious validity .
A better strategy is to state your expectations.
When the candidate is convinced of his abilities should not be afraid of asking for adequate remuneration.
It is undisputed, however, that must be reasonable in. Do not hesitate to reveal it, but first make sure you have all the necessary information to evaluate the significance of the position and workload. Your expectations should be influenced in part by your own financial needs and current status, and the other – the relative worth of the job in the company.
