Student’s Day

(December 8)

The day of enlightener Sv. Kliment Ohridski.

The day of students.

The day of Sofia University.
Every year on December 8 current, former, and even the future Bulgarian students reported their holiday. For the first group it is a great occasion to kill at least for a head concerns about approaching winter session exams and diploma work, the rent for the dorm, tuition fee and all sorts of other things.

That massacre happens naturally by furious party and respectable amount of alcohol. Units are those who do not celebrate. Just as many there are those who know exactly what and why celebrate on that date.

December 8th is the day on which back in 1888 was founded the first university in Bulgaria, later called the Sofia University. Student festival began to celebrate in 1903 on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the University. In 1944 the celebration of that date is repealed and instead began to celebrate on 17 November International Students’ Solidarity Day.

In 1962, the feast of Sofia University on December 8 was restored, and at the end of October 1994 decided that date should be free of school day and is celebrated by students across the country. For those who are fans of the music of the Beatles, the date December 8 there is another, more specific sense on that date in 1980 was killed John Lennon.
